About Us

This blog is run by Nomad Design House, a location independent creative agency that began in 2014. While traveling through Central America in 2013, founder Laura Galvin was trading her graphic and web design skills for room and board at hotels, yoga retreats and other expat-owned businesses. In every place she went, she made connections and met potential clients that were in need of marketing and design help. Soon she was working while on the road for these various clients, and running a small marketing agency from her laptop was starting to organically take place. To keep this dream alive, she and a partner continued to grow their client base, mostly in Costa Rica. Nomad Design House now has clients like luxury real estate developments, tour companies, law offices, restaurants and hotels, and provides services such as logo design, branding, graphic design, and web design.

Laura has spent the majority of the last 8 years in Costa Rica, traveling to other Central American countries and the US frequently, but enjoying a home base in this peaceful, tropical country. Over the years, she has learned a lot about being a digital nomad in Costa Rica, from safety and travel tips to culture and local business. When the Costa Rican government announced its plans to offer a digital nomad visa in 2020 during the pandemic, it was naturally something that Laura felt passionate about supporting and promoting, for many reasons.

“Living a location independent lifestyle has been such a rewarding reality for me, and my experience working remotely in Costa Rica has been so positive, that I would love to share what I have learned with others who are looking to do something similar. Also after spending so much time in Costa Rica, I see how much tourism impacts the economy and how many long-term tourists there already are here. Creating this Digital Nomad Visa option for remote workers to stay for a year or two legally and contribute to the local economy is a win-win situation for digital nomads and local Costa Rican business owners.”
